Dr. William D. Shea is a founding member of Longwood Orthopedic Associates and brings a wealth of knowledge and clinical expertise to his practice. Dr. Shea has been Board Certified by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons since 1972. Dr. Shea has served as a Clinical Instructor in Orthopedic Surgery at the Tufts University School of Medicine, an Assistant Professor in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and a Clinical Instructor in Orthopedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Shea was an active duty member of the United States Navy Medical Corps where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He served as a General Medical Officer in Argentia, Newfoundland, the Philadelphia Naval Hospital and the Boston Naval Hospital. He also served as a consultant in reconstructive surgery of the hip and knee to the Orthopedic Departments of the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Norfolk, VA, the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, MD and the U.S. Naval Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Shea later continued his military career in the United States Army Reserves, where he received an Army Commendation Medal while serving at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. during Operation Desert Storm.

Dr. Shea graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia and received his medical degree from the University of Ottawa. He completed a surgical internship at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT and residency at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital. He then completed further residency training with the Yale University Pediatric Orthopedic Training Program at Newington Hospital in Newington, CT. He completed fellowships in Orthopedic Surgery at both Massachusetts General Hospital and the New England Baptist Hospital.
